The Mentawai Islands offer some of the best surf to be found anywhere in the world, with more perfect left and right handers in one region than anywhere on earth.  The Mentawai group of Islands attracts swells all year round with the most consistent season generally being between March and November.  Waves vary in size from 2 to 12 foot with the average wave height being about 6 foot. The Mentawai Islands region can also get big swells with reports of up to 15 feet plus recorded. They can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels.  If can hold you're own on a wave, whether you're natural or goofy, this place has the wave for you. Even today you still have the opportunity to surf uncrowded waves as this area keeps producing quality line ups which are scattered amongst a vast array of reefs, point breaks and secluded bays. 

On a world scale, The Mentawai Islands has a 91% chance of scoring epic waves.  Compared with Hawaii (76%) and Australia around 80%.  With warm water and a variety of perfect waves the Mentawai's has it all.

All Mentawai surf charters depart from Padang anytime between mid afternoon up until late that evening of your first day, with an overnight trip to the Mentawai's on the charter boat of your choice. Upon arrival early next morning you wake up and enjoy your first session as the sun rises. Most charter lengths are specified but if you book out a charter boat, it can also be customised or extended to suit your travel plans upon request.

There are only a couple of Resorts or Surf Camps in the Mentawais and Surf Travel has selected nothing but the best!  This is a great alternative to the traditional boat charters so that you can enjoy the Islands and surf breaks in complete luxury, retiring to your island villa each night. You still have access to all of the breaks via speedboat as well as all the home luxuries you would expect at any resort in the world.  A great option if you want to go to the Mentawai's with a group of mates or with partners.
