The Telo's Island group is siutated just over  the border into North Sumatra. This area is situated above the Mentawai Islands and below Nias Island. The region has been named by surfers as Telo's after the goverment establishment located on Telo island. This group of islands lay at the top of the Batu Archipelago.  These islands lie some 40 NM southeast of Nias and span some 45 NM to the south and consist of some 51 islands throughout the chain.

It is an extremely difficult and remote area to travel to without local knowledge, a charter boat or chartered plane. This area remains relatively uncrowded and offers a wide variety of surf breaks and cultural diversity.

New waves are being discovered with each new swell each year and opportunities are abound with the 51 islands in the chain.With an enormous amount of islands scattered within this region all with various breaks, the islands usually deliver offshore conditions no matter which direction the wind is blowing.

Over the years, the Telo's operators have surfed the many breaks of the region and even during the ‘06 season explored and researched other locations in the area making a few secret discoveries of their own. There are many different breaks within an hour’s traveling time of the lodge and 70% of them are within 20 mins. THE SURF HERE IS ULTRA CONSISTENT in the 3-5-foot range, lefts and rights that work in all tides and opposite wind directions virtually guaranteeing offshores every day. There are only a couple of Resorts in the Telo Islands and Surf Travel has selected nothing but the best!  This is a permanent alternative to the boat charters which only occasionally visit the area.
