Clem's Place - Lavongai Area
Clem's Place is situated on Tunnung Island which is a small remote island north of the mainland of New Hanover in the Three Island Harbour area, about three hours by speedboat from Kavieng. Ideally located amongst some of the most pristine waters PNG has to offer, these waters lay home to some of PNG best waves, diving and fishing. If your idea of fun is to be on a remote island surrounded with all your creature comforts and have the opportunity to get into some of the most beautiful water environments of PNG, then Clem's Place is the perfect for you.
Clem's Place is owned and operated by Clem & Sophie Anton and caters for up to 10 surfers at any one time in 5 bungalows. Each bungalow has been built directly facing the surf and the islands magnificent tidal lagoon. Clem's Place is home not only to its own break but is surrounded by other waves which most are within 25 - 50 minutes from the camp, depending upon what boat is used, how many people, the swell size and wind permitting. There are plenty of waves in the area and these user friendly waves offer the chance for all levels of surfing ability to sample some outer island magic. The waves found in this area are made up of a variety of left and right handers which range from cruising hotdog waves to pitching peaks to long playful walls. Some of these waves on the right tides can even produce short sharp barrel if you take off deep enough or race down the line as the wave runs off the reef towards the passage.
We cannot say enough about Clem's Place and the staff on hand are friendly and engaging and you will be simply amazed how this remote and isolated island will make you feel at home when actually you are so far away. Clem's Place has a uniqueness hard to describe in words and the only way to understand what that means is to experience it yourself first hand.!!
2010 sees the introduction of the Saturday to Sunday trip schedule for Clem's Place and the start of our 8 night packages. Due to the late arrival into Kavieng on a Saturday, you will be greeted by a representative from the Malagan Resort and taken to your first nights accommodation in Kavieng. After dinner you will be free to explore the local area or relax and enjoy your first icy cold SP lager. Dawn next morning you will have breakfast and provided with a snack for your early morning transfer to Kavieng wharf for your departure to Clem's Place. You may possibly be surfing on the way if some of the more southern breaks of Lavongai are working. Your next 6 nights are then enjoyed in the beautiful Three Island Harbour area where you'll experience a fully charged water sports adventure, mixed with everything culturally this area has to offer. On your last day at Clem’s Place you will have the chance for an early morning surf before departing for Kavieng around lunchtime. Again, on the return leg to Kavieng you may get the possibility of surfing some of the southern Lavongai breaks should they be working. On arrival into Kavieng you will be met by a Malagan Resort representative and taken onto your accommodation for the night where dinner will be provided. Next morning is an early 4.00am start, a snack style breakfast will be provided before you depart on your airport transfer.
